The Re-Framing Strategy for Growers

Window frame with marijuana

Photo colage of marijuana gardenAbout a year ago I was talking to a fellow grower who lost his entire garden to one of those things that we all fear the most—crop failure.

He was really down about it and was considering throwing in the towel.

Seriously, he was so devastated by this one little incident that he was thinking about just giving up and walking away from growing for good. He said he was just gonna go start putting in double-time for his brother in-law’s construction company—which was his normal day job—instead of spending any more time and energy on growing.

But here’s the thing, he hated the job and couldn’t stand his brother in-law—he said the guy was a real asshole and worse than that boss in Office Space—you know, Lumbergh.

He told me about how he was almost 2 months behind on his mortgage, and was scared he was going to lose his house.

Now, I know how horrible crop failure can seem. In fact, I wrote all about my first experience with it in a recent blog post.

But remember, the bottom line is that it’s only as bad as your mind makes it out to be.

In fact, you can actually give it any meaning you want to by just re-framing it.

Re-framing is a process of viewing, experiencing and mentally labeling situations in a way that allows you to attach alternative meanings to them—ideally meanings that are positive and focus on the big picture outcome.

For example, in the situation with the grower above, his frame of the experience was one of loss, failure, and limited options.

A frame in a frame showing a picture of gardenHe had given the situation a very dark, narrow and scarcity-based frame.

During our talk I encouraged him to look at this experience in a different light—a new frame if you will.

For one, he needed to be grateful for what he had—which was a loving and supportive wife, an ideal location to grow, and access to myself and some of the other top growers in the world. So from that stand-point, he had a lot more going for him than most growers.

He also had a ton of other great stuff in his life—he had a steady source of income, wonderful kids, a beautiful home and he was healthy. I mean, sure, he would have needed to put in extra-hours at the construction gig for a couple of months to stay afloat and get caught up on his mortgage, but only temporarily.

A lot of people in the world don’t have this kind of luxury. I know first hand. You see, I recently spent some time in Syrian refugee camps delivering food to the refugees.

No matter had bad his crop failure appeared, his life was still 100 times better than a large portion of our world has it.

Here’s a video from when I visited the camps… check it out.

Next, I got him to put his focus on not just this one little crop, but on the big picture of what he wanted to do as a grower.

In the scheme of your career as a grower, one little crop failure really doesn’t matter all that much. Sure, it might suck when you walk in and see all your little beauties lying there dead or diseased, but honestly, if you’re a grower that kind of thing comes with the job description.

Now for one, he was only 3 weeks into the grow. So at least he lost it after just 3 weeks instead of a whole 7, 8 or 9 right?

Also, the strain he was growing wasn’t all that great. So he now had the opportunity to start over with a better strain.

Plus, he learned a ton about growing from the experience that he can now apply to future crops.

A close-up image of marijuana bud placed into a wooden frameI helped him shift his focus from looking at it as a failure, and putting that experience into the big picture frame of gratitude,  lessons learned and a future of unlimited possibilities.

Once he did this he was able to move on to his next grow with an optimistic and determined attitude that he simply didn’t have before.

And what’s awesome is, he’s since had so much success growing—even in just the last year—that not only did he not have to start putting in double-time hours for his brother-in-law, but he was able to quit that job all-together, put a nice amount of savings away into the bank, and he and his wife are expecting triplets. Triplets!

Plus, he paid off his house!

He now looks back at that silly little crop failure and says it was the turning point where he decided to stop pussy-footing around and get serious as a grower.

I love it when a member of our community is able to take a situation that at the time seemed “bad” (that’s the way he labeled it back when it happened—”bad”), and turn it into one big positive—a positive that can catapults success not just to the next level, but the next 10 levels.

Remember, we can’t change the past, but we CAN give a new meaning to it and set our sights on the future.

My sincere hope to you is that you take everything that’s going on in your life and in your gardens, and put the biggest most-positive outcome-based frames on them that you can.

It makes all the difference in the world.

Talk soon,

BigMike 🙂

The Velocity Factor

Cheetah running into the wild

Indoor marijuana gardeningI wanna share something with you that has been a key factor in my own success, and can help you not only to be more productive in your growing adventures, but also in your life.

I call it the “Velocity Factor”

Imagine green sugary buds. Beautiful, big, fat sticky ones. As many of them as you want to grow.

That’s what I did 31 years ago.

And then I got busy.

Did I make a plan? Sure. But planning doesn’t attract success. Speed and execution attract success.

No amount of studying, planning, brainstorming, or mentally preparing even come close to the power of just getting to damn work.

A running cheetah in the wild. I’ve known people with all kinds of amazing plans to harvest tens, hundreds, thousands, or even tens of thousands of bright green beauties; or to start their dream business or launch a product line, and their plans are amazing… I mean they’re as prepared as one could be, but the problem is they don’t actually jump in and do it.

They let fear, self-doubt, perfectionism, waiting for inspiration or the “right time” to get started, keeping them stuck in a state of perpetual “gonna do something great” but they never go out and do it.

“I wish to have no connection to a ship which does not sail fast; for I intend to go into harm’s way.”

– John Paul Jones

The key is to dive in headfirst and let the path reveal itself to you.

Action not only alleviates anxiety, but it attracts the answers, tools and momentum you need to be successful.

No book, plan, thought, meeting, insight, partner, blog or forum post can give it to you.  It takes massive action in the direction of what you want.

Sure, study your ass off and make well calculated plans, but all the best information and planning in the world is completely useless without execution.

A moment of NASCAR crashAnd the faster you execute, the more success you’ll attract.

Yes, you’ll also make more mistakes, I spoke about this in-depth my last post actually—How to Become an Epic Grower—but mistakes are good. They’re a necessary component of success.

Be willing to make a mess, break some stuff, spill nutes, kill plants and maybe even get some blood on the floor.

That’s ok, The path is never perfect. It’s dynamic, changing and sometimes a downright pain in the ass.

But if you move fast and fail fast, you’ll also learn fast and attract success fast.

So don’t worry about trying to do everything perfect, especially if you’re just starting out.

In fact, perfectionism is your worst enemy if you want to succeed. It’s a form of fear and control. You have to be willing to embrace the chaos and face it head on.

“If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you’ll never get it done.”
― Bruce Lee

An artistic image with two racing carsThe more successful you become as a grower, in business or at ANYTHING in life, the more chaos, hurdles, and setbacks you’re gonna face.

But it’s all one big test. Success is testing you to see if you have what it takes. To achieve what you want in life, you have to become a person who achieves the kinds of things you set out to do. You have to grow, evolve and prove you can handle yourself under the pressure.

If you currently grow 10 plants and want to grow 10,000, you have become a person who can handle growing 10,000 plants. And to become that person, there will be series of tests every step of the way.

As you pass the tests, you become stronger, wiser, more tenacious and more successful.

However, none of this happens when we sit on our ass. It happens when we get moving, Even if we don’t know where to start, the key is to start. And then once you get moving, opportunities, possibilities and rewards will open themselves up to you.

My entire life as a grower I lived by the principle of velocity.

And yeah, I’ve made mistakes, crashed, burned, blew shit up… the whole deal.

But velocity has allowed me to achieve things that there’s no way I ever could have done had I tried to come up with the perfect plan or waited for inspiration to come give me a swift kick in the butt.

I had to get busy.

“Amateurs sit and wait for inspiration, the rest of us just get up and go to work.”
― Stephen King, On Writing

A running athlete finish off the trackAs long as you can see the first step, take it. You’re never going to figure out all the steps you need to take to get to where you want to go. The first step will lead to the second step and so on.

When I first started the Advanced Nutrients Holiday Heroes Program—to feed hungry families in Bulgaria—from the time of conception until we fed our first 1000 families was just 21 days.

People said it would be impossible. I guess they didn’t understand the power of velocity.

And yeah, we ran into ALL SORTS of problems that we didn’t foresee. But we never would have been able to figure everything out just sitting around waiting for the perfect plan to come together. We got busy and learned as we went.

And before long we were able to feed not only 1,000 families at a time, but 16,000 people at a time.

Just like anything else worthwhile I’ve accomplished in my life, it’s because I started with a goal, got busy taking action in the direction of that goal, encountered all kinds of problems, learned, grew and sometimes had to adjust my course a bit, and finally either reached my destination or one better than I had originally set out to reach.

A biker wins the raceJust like Tyler Durdin said in Fight Club “I don’t want to die without any scars

Whatever it is you want to achieve in life—giant gardens with big fat sugar-coated buds, owning a business, getting into shape, going after your dream life or career, if you just start moving in the direction of it—not tip-toeing around, but taking large and bold strides—the path will reveal itself to you, and you’ll either achieve your goals, or something greater.

And I want great things for you.

Talk soon,

BigMike

Your Most Important Day as a Grower

A man with marijuana bud suit

medical marijuana badgeAs a grower, it’s easy to get caught up in living for the harvest—living for the days when your crop is ready and you can enjoy the fruits of your labor.

While I do think you should keep the end goal in mind of harvesting the biggest, fattest, most sugary-coated potent buds possible, if you live for the harvest, you’re in the same position as the masses who live for the weekends.

Now I know this sounds obvious, but you’d be amazed at how many growers live this way.

It’s part of the human condition, striving for tomorrow while missing out on today—the only day we have.

When you live like this, not only are your plants not getting the attention they deserve, but your LIFE isn’t getting the attention it deserves either.

The key is to walk the line of having clear goals for yourself and your garden while diving headfirst into the steps you’re taking today to reach those goals. Otherwise you’ll end up rushing the entire process and paying for it with a crop that falls short of what it could be, a life that’s unfulfilling, and an entire journey that seems more like a means to an end instead of the labor of love it should be.

A giant marijuana bud with glasses and cigarNow, the growers I know who LOVE what they do—the ones who love stopping to smell the flowers, who love giving everything of themselves to grow the absolute best buds possible, and who know that the steps they take today are the only ones that matter—those are the growers who are successful both in and out of the garden.

Bringing passion and focus into your work is what yields the best results, the best buds, and the best life—by FAR.

As you probably know, I’ve been growing for over 31 years now and have been helping growers like you enjoy the biggest, baddest, tastiest buds possible for nearly as long.

And while I’m an extremely goal-oriented person, I’ve made a discipline of putting 100% of my attention into what I can do today and ONLY today.

Doing this allows me to avoid a lot of the stress that comes with running a $90 million company.

It keeps me out of regret for the mistakes I made yesterday…and trust me, I’ve made a ton of mistakes. But I look at these mistakes as growing experiences (no pun intended) that allow me to be the number one grower and business owner I can be today, and they enable me to be of maximum service to you today—so you can be the number one grower that you can be today as well.

A man in bud costume Now, fortunately I love working with growers like you…I just LOVE discovering new ways to help you become the best at what you do.

I love hearing about your giant harvests, about how much Advanced Nutrients is helping you take your growing to the next level, and about all the pats on the back your friends are giving you when they’re partaking in the tasty fruits of your labor.

I can’t even begin to describe the smile on my face all this gives me.

But I know none of this would be possible if I was constantly in a rush to get to the next thing. It only comes by giving my all to what I’m working on RIGHT NOW.

And since today is all we have, we might as well live in the here and now, give the step in front of us everything we’ve got, and enjoy the ride—and, oh, what a ride it is!

Our lives and our harvests will thank us for it.

How to Be the Happiest and Most Successful Grower Possible

Large open field with medical marijuana

Man in BUD costume with two girlsHey there it’s BigMike. What I’m about to share with you will not only make you a happier and more successful grower, it’ll make you happier and more successful in every area of your life.

I actually haven’t had the time to do a lot of blog posts lately.

It’s been crazy around here.

I’ve been putting the pedal to the metal working with the Advanced Nutrients scientists and grow specialists on some things that are gonna rock the hydroponics world to its core and skyrocket your growing to an entirely new level—with bigger yields and off-the-charts potency.

I’ll be sharing more about this with you in the near future.

I’ve also been spearheading a movement to create social change in Bulgaria.

Man, the government there is a mess…talk about corruption!

The people are broke and their system is failing them. So I’m doing what I can to help fix it. It’s a mighty task but fortunately I’ve already rallied up over 128,000 people and we have some brilliant minds on our team doing everything they can to make things right for the citizens of Bulgaria. It’s a full-on, balls-to-the-wall effort the whole way.

We’re not messing around.

An granny standing in the middle of her kitchen And on top of all that I’ve been spending a lot of time building the Holiday Heroes Army so we can feed as many families in need as possible. It breaks my heart to see people go hungry when there’s no good reason for it. EVERYONE deserves to eat. Everyone. No exceptions.

So, like I said, I haven’t had a lot of time to do many blog posts for you, but this one just couldn’t wait. It’s about something that can improve your life in sooo many ways.

Look, I want you to be happy.

And I’m not just talking about being happy with the products you get from Advanced Nutrients…or when you’re gazing at the big fat sugary buds busting outta the seams of your garden…or when your friends are partaking in the fruits of your labor and patting you on the back for growing such killer buds.

I want you to be happy, PERIOD.

Which brings me to the time I died…

As you may know, while undergoing an operation back in August 30th of 2011 I completely flat-lined—I died. Fortunately it was only for a short period and the doctors were able to revive me.

IMG_0340w-w800-h600(BTW, keep your eye out for a future post where I’m gonna share the entire story of what happened…including what I saw on the other side—something I’ve only shared with a few close friends since it happened.)

After the doctors brought me back I noticed something strange.

It’s as if parts of myself died right there on the table with me but never came back.

One day they were there, holding me back from being of maximal use to my fellow man, and the next day—“POOF!”—they were gone.

And what replaced ’em was a sincere desire to help my fellow man to the absolute best of my abilities.

Now I’m not gonna sit here and tell you I’m filled with nothing but altruistic tendencies… because it’s not like that at all. Trust me, I like having my piece of pie; I just wanna make sure everyone else gets a yummy piece of pie as well.

All I’m saying is that something changed deep inside of me. And because of this change, I’ve been spending a great deal of my time focused on helping people.

And ya know what?

It feels fucking amazing.

I’m very fortunate that because of my mother and my Grandma I’ve always always been somewhat of a giving person… but now it’s become an obsession. And the more I give, the happier I am.

If you’re ever feeling down in the dumps, go help someone and I promise that you’ll immediately start to feel better.

And if you’re not as happy as you’d like to be, go help more people in more impactful ways. You WILL be happier.

Not getting what you want in life? Go help more people get what THEY want in life—that’s how you get what YOU want in life.

Now I realize I’m not telling you something you don’t already know. I mean, I’m sure by the time you were 9 your Grandma told you at least 327 times how important it is to help people. She probably said things like “It’s better to give than receive” and “Giving is the greatest gift of all.”

But at that age, most of us were like, “Screw that, I want presents!” (I know that’s what I was I thinking, at least.)

Now, why did she tell us this stuff 327 times?

Because Grandma was smart.  She knew that we can never be reminded of this little lesson too many times.

The more people you help, the happier you’ll be. You know it, I know it, and Grandma knew it. (R.I.P. Grandma.)

And here’s the thing: I want you to be as happy as possible.

Seriously, I want you to have such a happy, fulfilling and prosperous life that you could never, even in your wildest dreams, ask for anything more.

I’m not saying that you don’t already have that kind of life, but in our community it’s important that we look out for each other… and just like I’m sure you want the best for me, I want the best for YOU.

So here’s a few ideas on how you can help more people…

– Donate a portion of your next harvest to someone in need…someone who deserves the absolute best medicine possible, but can’t normally afford to get their hands on it. Even if you can only spare a little. Remember, a little to you can mean A LOT to someone else.

– Help a first-time grower set up his garden. Here’s even some downloadable gifts you can hook ’em up with:

– Be a mentor to a grower who’s less experienced than you are.

– Commit to doing one random act of kindness each day: Call a friend just to let them know how much their friendship means to you. Buy a meal for a homeless person. Pull over and help push someone’s stalled car. Leave a big tip. That kind of stuff.

And check this out… I know two ways that you’re already helping out a lot of people right now.

First, because you grow some of the highest quality medical marijuana around, you’re helping to alleviate the pain and suffering of others and giving them a better quality of life.

How do I know you grow some of the best marijuana around?

Easy!

Because you use Advanced Nutrients.

AND…because the growers who follow my blog are the ones who are always trying to learn more and are committed to continually raising the bar for themselves and the quality of their crops.

Growers who don’t give a shit about educating themselves and becoming better at what they do aren’t the ones reading this stuff—I promise you.

The ones who read it are the ones like you—the forward thinkers who are open to new possibilities and who are 100% committed to excellence—excellence in themselves and excellence in their garden.

You’re the ones who can, and are, changing the world.

You’re the rebel, the outcast, the David in a world of Goliaths.

You tread where others are too scared to go.

You see possibilities where others see only problems.

And you refuse to settle for anything but the best.

Which brings me to the other way I know of that you’re currently making a contribution to the world.

You use Advanced Nutrients!

When you invest in any of our nutrients you’re not only investing in your garden…you’re not only investing in the science and development of the best nutrients possible…you’re not only investing in the rapid advancement of our industry and helping to improve the way marijuana is grown and forever increasing its quality for the world to enjoy…

You’re investing in a company that is committed to making a difference in the world.

You’re investing in a company that is heavily involved in charity and philanthropy work.

Screen Shot 2013-11-05 at 10.50.41 AM-w800-h600You’re investing in a company that…

– Feeds thousands of hungry families each year with its Holiday Heroes Program

– Has charitable programs to help ease the pain and suffering of injured war veterans

– Gives away millions of dollars worth of nutrients to assist the sick, needy and dying people of the world

– Builds classrooms in Uganda

– Is helping to break the cycle of poverty by lending seed money to people in developing countries who dream of starting small businesses but simply can’t afford to do so

THAT’S what you’re investing in.

966651_10151677818721093_1415564359_o-w800-h600The bottom line is that you’re investing in a company that is making the world a better place. Which means YOU’RE making the world a better place.

And for that I commend you and I thank you.

It’s people like you who are changing the world.

Help more people, give more of what you have, stand up for what you believe in, and stand up for those who can’t stand up for themselves.

Together we’re making a difference.

Talk soon,
BigMike

Chloroplasts Super Charged – Maximum Chlorophyll in Hydroponics

If the plants in your grow room are not thriving as much as you would like, it might be because the chloroplasts are not super charged. When you have your chloroplasts super charged, it means that they are working at total plant growth efficiency, using all of your hydroponic nutrients and resources at maximum capacity, doing everything in their power to actually increase carbohydrate production.

But your chloroplasts will not get super charged all by themselves. It takes the right concentration of hydroponic growing methods and techniques before your really see the kind of plant growth you want in your garden.

Maximum Light – To get your chloroplasts super charged, do not assume your grow lights are already working at maximum capacity. Without sufficient luminescence, your chlorophyll will not be able to process the light needed to generate the sugars and carbohydrates that create maximum plant growth. Experimenting with light in a hydroponic grow room is key in this case.

Test different positions of your light to see which stimulates your chlorophyll the most. You might even try to change to LED growth lights. Some studies suggest that they help get your chloroplasts super charge better than some other, more traditional hydroponics lights.

Amino Acids – In order to have chloroplasts supercharged, you also need to stimulate as much plant growth as humanly possible. This is why you should be on the lookout for hydroponic supplements that are very rich in plant amino acids. These can assist in chloroplast production, helping super charge how much sugar your plants actually generate and increase overall yield.

You can even get amino acids from completely organic sources such as fish meal. They often come in hydroponic organic plant teas that do a great deal of benefit to makes your chloroplasts super charged.

Carbon Dioxide – You will not have your chloroplasts super charged until you really increase the carbon dioxide in your hydroponics grow room. Your hydroponics grow lights stimulate the chlorophyll, which then uses atmospheric CO2 in order create plant sugars that give you that extra plant growth.

However, the atmospheric CO2 in most areas of the world is just a few hundred parts per million. You can purchase a carbon dioxide generator to really increase the amount of this essential gas you have in your hydroponics growth room.

Nitrogen – Of course you cannot ignore the fundamentals as well if you want to have your chloroplasts super charged. Your nutrients solution in your hydroponics reservoir should be very rich in nitrogen. Amongst all of the hydroponics nutrients, no other one influences and improves the health of your chloroplasts more. Nitrogen stimulates ultimate growth and helps fill your chloroplasts with essential chlorophyll.

To make this process much easier, it is a smart move to use 3 part hydroponic growth nutrients, which can make creating a nutrient solution in your reservoir that improves overall chloroplasts development much easier.

Aeroponics Nutrients – Aeroponics How To Get Started

While the history of hydroponics covers most of the twentieth century, aeroponics growing is a fairly new concept. This is because the technology required to ensure a constant flow of aeroponic nutrients is comparatively advanced to some other aeroponics systems.

But you should not let the more complex nature of using aeroponics growing intimidate you. In fact, you can have a great aeroponics garden, assuming that you have the right kind of knowledge about aeroponics nutrients.

Here are important things to keep in mind when using aeroponics nutrients.

Aeroponics vs. Hydroponics – The first step in any sufficient hydroponic growing operation is education. Specifically, it can be greatly helpful to understand the differences between aeroponics and hydroponics. When you explore the major plusses of aeroponics vs. hydroponics, you can start using aeroponic growing techniques more effectively.

One of the crucial adjustments that you are going to have to make in aeroponics vs. Hydroponics is the lack of a medium. This can actually be a major disadvantage in that aeroponics nutrients can help ensure greater uptake, but it can also cause a number of issues if you do not maintain your equipment properly.

Aeroponics How To – If you really like getting hands on with your hydroponics system, you might try using an aeroponics how to. This means using a guide that can tell you how to build your own aeroponics system, which might include how to properly administer your aeroponics nutrients. If you do it right, you can get an aeroponics system that is customized for your needs and your particular grow room.

You should be aware, however, that your aeroponics how to will probably require you to purchase additional equipment, which will probably include things like aeroponics foggers.

Aeroponics Kit – Alternatively, you could use an aeroponics kit to deliver aeroponics nutrients to your plants. The obvious advantage of an aeroponics kit is that it takes a lot of the guesswork out of building an aeroponics gardening system. You do not need tp do quite as much measuring and cutting, and the total time that you need to invest into building the aeroponics kit is less than using an aeroponics how to.

Aeroponics Fogger – When building your aeroponics system, your most important piece of equipment is going to be your aeroponics fogger, since this is what delivers the aeroponics nutrients. Remember that one of the big differences of aeroponics vs. hydroponics is that aeroponics relies entirely upon the fogging system, whereas hydroponics delivers moisture to the roots through a medium.

This is crucial, because if you have a sub par aeroponics fogger, you might wind up with either sick or dead plants really too quickly. Additionally, you should regularly check the nozzles of your aeroponics fogger to ensure that you always get a constant flow of aeroponics nutrients.
