Hey Sunlight Supply is using some really un-cool and unbelievably illegal STRONG ARM tactics by threatening to put a group of hydroponics storeowners out of business unless they start a boycott of Advanced Nutrients products.
Sunlight Supply CEO Craig Hargreaves will easily put these storeowners out of business because he controls the supplies of grow lights, bulbs and ballasts. Plus, the other things those storeowners needs to stay in business.
Sunlight Supply and the good ol’ boys club have been playing these shenanigans for the last seven years on our community. Now they’ve taken their scheming to a whole new and illegal level.
This video exposes the dirty underbelly of hydroponics good ol’ boys club and their leader Craig Hargreaves of Sunlight Supply – it’s pretty graphic – they’re actually doing this right now.

The good ol boys have asked that we sign what they call ” The MJ policy”, it states that if any of my customers at my hydro shop talk about Marijuana Sunlight supply/ National Garden will take away your products even if paid for and stop doing business with us. The only problem is we have to get alot of things from Hydrofarm, or any other distributor. If not we have nowhere else to go to get it. If we dont have those products, we go out of business. So they have us by the balls. The MJ policy goes into effect even in states like California where MJ is legal for medical consumption. I wish there were more MJ friendly companies that have wholesale products available all the time like other distributors. But most only have a few items needed. I wish everyone bought AN, but some customers use the other products , GH, Botanicare etc. So untill I open my distribution business, I guess im stuck buying my wholesale from the enemy, So Advanced, wanna help me start a warehouse for the items we shops need? Got a great location on The Northeast, Open and Willing to any ideas. Got the knowhow not the cash. So lets team up and I can hit stores up with more than just nutrients. Consider it! Thanks

I am from germany far away from the frontline of the “war”. i read much about your products unfortunately i never got the chance to test them yet on my own (they are not easy to get here; there are only some resellers -too less- for your products in germany) but i heard much from friends about it. But the information you give us about your products are very detailed and “logic”. These informations are from spending much money into research in order to get new/special knowledge. that was a great act to all growers and plant-friends! thanks for that…
But to compare your work with other fertilizer companies, i think they even didn`t know about some things you researched, with much time and love, till they heard from it…. from you of course!
I am not a reseller or something but i think at least in germany you won`t find such a economy on market concerning these products. from my point of view something like the things you described in the video are illegal, and should be tracked by the authorities.
I dont know the SunlightSupplies company, or, at least i thought so… really interested in it i just googled it and “hey”, even i know them. i thought they aren`t at the European market at all… they sell a very popular product in germany and the netherlands. but i think they only sell this single one.
Watching the American and European market i realized that these two markets are quite different from each other. You (the people on American continent, especially Usa and Canada) use other equipment for growing then we do here in Europe. We have different fertilizer companies, different producers of bulbs and so on… for parts, even different seeds, or to say it in more detail, different varieties/sorts(ok, concerning the seeds there is also a trend to some american sorts like kush now but they weren`t so popular here for a longer time).
But also after thinking about these things a while i came to the conclusion that the conditions described even can occur in germany or Europe in general. i think it is only a question of time. i think due to -something like the- “decriminalization” in several Us states and Canada (for me it is some kind of decriminalization when nearly everybody who wanna smoke can get a license from a doctor with the indication “Stress-Prevention”) there was a big boom in these economymarkets. this boom must have been the start of that kind of economy.
I think the market has come big enough and many people get greedy when they
can virtually “see” the big money thats just in front of them and waiting…
Anyway, i hope you will get the wages for your work! And i think YOU WILL!
Hope the waves of “their war” will flatten again.

I ran into your nutrients on the festival circuit in Colorado. At first I was not that interested. Then I hung out with some of the people working the tent at the festival. It’s because of the energy your people, that I started using your product. I am so happy with the results. I have completely switched over to AN, and will never look back. I had a terible experiance with sunlight supply just last week. Two of their ballast failed and they refused to honor the waranty. They claimed they were “mis-used”. They were less then a year old. I am still actually considering suing them in small claims court as a matter of principle. My bad for buying ballasts made in China from a shady company.

I am a business owner too and newly starting my grow and dispensory business. I was planng on using Sunlight as my light source, but will be changing my order and trust me it is a big one. Big Mike and Everyone else at Advanced Nutrients,
I think you guys should look into developing your own hoods, ballast, ph/ppm meters, hydro systems, containers, reflective material, everything a grower needs…. Everything a grower needs produced by YOU. I know I would only buy your products if that were the case. In my opinion you guys are the smartest company in this industry and I think you have way more potential than just nutrients. I think you should venture into other aspects of indoor gardening and start producing the best gear for cannabis growing specifically.
If you could have it to where hydro shop owners had to choose between “the good old boys” and Advanced Nutrients, I guarantee the shops that were on the AN side would do a lot better. Forget buying there companies out… You need to start your own, how can you trust that there companies are worth buying. Like you guys have said before, Bell Hoods are the best. So why not team up with them and start producing the best hydro gear the market has ever seen. Look at how advanced you guys have made nutrients(no pun intended). Why not make the gear just as advanced? Imagine the impact on the industry. It would be like the difference between Snap-On and Mac Tools(metaphorically). Your products would no longer be sold in the same hydro stores as the those guys. Your products would be sold in there own stores by themselves where they belong. No other nutrients is worthy of sitting on a shelf next to yours. Just GREAT old Advanced Nutrients along side the BEST gear, your gear. I would love to see that happen for you guys.
If you were to go through with this idea, you would not only succeed, but you would own the industry. That is why “The Good Old Boys” are trying to put you down while they can. They know that if you were to execute other aspects of the industry the way you have with the nutrients, you would be the leader in Indoor Gardening…

hi growers, i´m from portugal in europe growing organic crops in and out,coco,soil mixes etc… and i´ve been tested almost of european produts and about 3 years ago i tested the iguana juice bloom, since that i use all of organic nutrients from the advenced just because i loose a lot of work with other companies……i just wana say if you want a real medical hemp you have to use obviously the advenced nutrients so fuk up all the liers , i hate mind and fisical manipulations at all so the fear never wins only the true love thriunfs, we have been manipulated over than thousents of years its time to revalution all together we made better keep into the light my friends never give up to ignorance….

This is called a “secondary boycott”. It is illegal in the US. I went through it in the 1970′s when supermarkets would not buy our products unless they were union.

To JOSH in Germany – Thanks for your insightfull comment. I live in Colorado and I obtained a state medical card via a 5 minute doctor appointment where I stated I suffered from chronic pain and provided no medical records. I then was able to go next door the same day and purchase marijuana legally from a dispensary.
However; the prices at legal dispensaries are 2-3 times the prices on the black market. Also the quality of marijuana is much better on the black market.
So yes its easy to buy it legally but the legal market is very small compared to the illegal market still.
I and others would like to see the dispensary model as a framework for full legalization. People have been able to get weed easily for years and years – the question is who do we want to be suppling it – local growers or mexican drug gangs.

Also – we have very strong advocates in Colorado (see http://www.cannabistherapyinstitute.com/) who have recently rejected proposals from government to regulate the medical marijuana program.
They understand that too much government regulation could lead to monopolies of production under strict government control – especially if people are not allowed to grow their own plants or there are strict limits on home cultivation. We are not willing to give up our fundemental rights to gain a small fraction of formal legitimacy.

But when i first found out about your nutrients I asked the local store who then bared me from buying anything from them again.Then the son opened another store in town & I buy from him but they don’t sell any advanced nutrients in this state! I called them and left a message, I simply said that I didn’t agree with the threats, and would not buy there products. I also said that we live in a “free” country and we should be able to purchase from any supplier we want. I live in a state that does not have leagal MJ but we did want to grow indoor veg. and herbs for our consumption. Thanks Big Mike for the heads up on the “terrorist” threats.

I have several Sunlight Air Cooled hoods on order, but it’s not to late to cancel and go with another company! I grow for myself I have HIV and what I grow is MEDICINE that I need to have. What I don’t need to have is Sunlight products in my grow room! I’m going to cancel my order and find another brand to purchase instead.

I may be one of the few who are actually growing TOMATOES who frequent this site. When I first got into hydroponic growing I did a lot of research and once I got started tried all kinds of different products; learning. The local “greenhouse supply” Anthony’s in Coos Bay, Oregon (an honest and helpful team), USA sold me a tremendous product for my transplanting; B52! I ran out because he only had 1 bottle left and informed me that he could no longer get AN’s stuff from his supplier. The typical “when you finally get something that works, someone takes it away” comes to mind. The crop that got started with B52 did very well, whereas the rest of the crop regardless of species that got the other product was often sick and I had to “babysit” it all the time.
Any time I called your facility to ask questions your staff was courteous and very forthcoming with on the button info even though I was not using your products. This year there will be some changes! If there was that much of a difference with B52, I can only imagine the difference with your other products.
Sorry to see the unethical behavior of your competitors, but take it as a sign that they feel drastic action was necessary to head off a serious threat. I’m sure it doesn’t feel any better, but it shows you are definitely on the right track otherwise they would just wait and let the product difference speak for itself. If they feel that the product difference would speak against them, maybe they should change their product instead on making crooks of themselves.
Keep it up Mike, I may not be a big buyer yet but I am trying!

As far as I know you can not sensure what other people say to you. If someone asks about growing marijuana in a state that allows it to be used and grown, then they really have no say.
In fact I would take that up with your state and package it as prejudicial behavior practices against people trying to follow your state laws. I would also contact BBB (hey co’s have to pay to be on their list so it could hit their pocket book). Also who ever regulates fair business practice in your state should be contacted along with your Atty general. Have written statements from the people calling you about this unfair business practice.
You have a deformation of character suit, and the threats could fall under “hostile take over of the market place.”

Agree with pretty much everything people have said before me, just wanted to chime in that I’ve got about 20,000 watts of HID light to buy for two hydro projects, and while I can’t tell you exactly where I’m going to spend my money now, I can definitely tell you where it won’t be going.

HEY BIG MIKE – Certainly you’ve thought of this already…starting your own line of hardware to overtake sunlight supply. Source or even build you own gear. Make it better and easily available in the shops. You already have the supply chain down. You have brand recognition.
I can see lots of room for improvement in the lighting field. Some of the reflector designs are antique slab sided things, including theirs. They have some neat gear, like high quality T5 luminaires, but I think they are overpriced. I can’t buy ‘em up here anyway, no one carries their gear.
T5 luminaires are hard to find or overpriced (see fancy aquarium shops). I’m told no one, even Lumatek builds a correct electronic ballast. The basic parabolic reflector needs an update. Drop me a line if you’re interested in any more ideas.
It’s hard to believe retailers would have a problem finding new suppliers of quality gear. Get on the net and look around. Check Canada, your dollar goes further here.
Also, other types of suppliers sell related gear, sometimes superior to that from the hydro market. Aquarium/terrarium supply, landscaping pond supply, industrial lighting supply.
Who needs the middlemen anyway? Contact individual manufacturers of products you like. The internet makes it easy to find and hook up with other businesses.
If they called me up and said “boycott Advanced” I’d turn right around and boycott them. No one around here carries their stuff anyway. The indoor grow shop I go to still makes their own ballasts. They used to do reflectors too. It’s not rocket science, though I think the designs need updating.
Sunlight Supply, I wonder how much of their profits have come from MJ grows, legal or not. He’s speaking out NOW? I don’t think what they are doing is fair to the shops, though he’s free to withdraw his products if he likes. It’s unfair to you though, and he should mind his own business.
Few things have as much hyperbole surrounding them as MJ, I’ve never understood it. As a society that tolerates, even embraces alcohol and pharmaceuticals, it’s especially puzzling.

AN is a great nutrient for ANY plants – hydroponic or soil.

I wrote you an e-mail a few months ago saying to you in your literature and your products why is it you do not promote them for bud growers rather than make them look like they are for growing vegetables and flowers. You don’t know the half of it. BWGS, HF and Sunlight get together and SET PRICES. I have been told this directly from Erin at HF. The timers that sell for $13.99 retail, I buy for $7 wholesale but I can find a similar model for $3 at Harbor Freight. THESE 3 SUPPLIERS KNOW WHAT EVERYONE IS GROWING AND THEY OVERCHARGE YOU ACCORDINGLY. Take Foxfarm…$43 retail for a pound of dry fertilizer? I can buy a 25 pound bag for $23 elsewhere. Ocean Forest for $23 a bag? And they routinely raise prices every January. Don’t get me started on Botanicare tray and reservoir prices.
If you go to the dispensary in Chino, CA right next to the MJ are Sunlight Supply reflectors for sale.
These wholesalers treat the retailers like shit so I am not surprised that they also have no respect for the end users who allow these aholes to buy homes and put food on their table and money in their pockets. We need more wholesalers …competition lowers prices but now these wholesalers have a monopoly. A monopoly on policy and pricing and you the consumer are getting hosed.

My family and I escaped from vietnam when I was 3 yrs old. I have 2 sisters and one brother. My father and mother could barely speak english when we came here to america. They worked so hard to put us all through school and college and I owe them everything for that.
My sob story will have a moral to it (lol). There are 2 ways my father and mother were able to do this through their businesses (my father did real estate and my mother was a hair stylist) which is be honest with your customers and make sure that they felt taken care of.
I have been in the hydroponics industry now for four years and here is what I have found. You can be an honest person, live by good karma, pay all your invoices on time, etc. The fact of the matter is that this industry has it’s own politics involved and if someone does not want to sell to you, it is at their discretion. I don’t want get into detail here but I hope things can change for the better in the future for this industry.

Why does one think they can just put you out of business. Look into homegrown-hydroponics. I think this is what happened to them with dirty illegal strategies. I am not sure but last I knew they were put out of business and the biz was for sale. They were offering the latest in hydroponics out there that I have still yet to find anywhere else. I am ashamed to admit it but I have eight sunlight supply lights in my basement thankfully we already have upgraded to led lights, from what I’ve seen in the video I wouldn’t piss on that “huge” factory if it was on fire. As for that pussy seeking out and terrorizing innocent shop owners, someone needs to put a foot in his ass. Otherwise thanks for all the great info BIG MIKE and keep up the good work

It would not surprise me to learn that Sunlight Supply’s business strength has been because of its support of, and supply to, the (wink,wink,nudge,nudge,never let on, never let on)industry of growing MJ whether commercial or amateur. I suspect that they are currying favour with the folks at the DEA and attempting to knock out their competition in the marketplace in one fell swoop. If HydroFarm, Sunlight Supply and others in their group continue to use these tactics to gain a monopoly in that marketplace and therefore be able to control the prices and profits in markets where MJ production is Legal, perhaps an investigation or action should be launched using an investigative arm of the US Government. Imagine that!! The DEA and the Good Ol’ Boys defending themselves from a Senate anti-trust investigation. The next question is What are the terms and conditions of their deals with the DEA???

This is so wrong Big Mike…natural competition is not Sunlights strongpoint as I have dealt with Craig before on the wholesale supply end back & forth for products. I ran a wholesale lighting supply (and more) and more here in Canada and I can say this…he cannot and will not be able to do this strongarming in Canada. I & othersw cut his supply out in Alberta before and it should be done again if this is going on. I am out of the supply, sourcing and manufacturing at present but if you require a hand in Alberta do let me know. I am currently setting the ball in play to start my own nutrient supply, lighting and hydroponic manufacturing/wholesale company here as well. Big Mike…If this is happening to Advance it will happen to others including myself. Let me know if there is any way in which I can help. Also if Advance wants to test and publish more nutrients I am willing to have my brand to come participate.

Big Mike, love your products have improved my; trichome density, taste, aroma and yield immensely, please just go easy on the faithful with the price increases!!
These improvements are very quantifiable allowing people to easily identify a superior product, yours, products that out perform anything I’ve used in the last 15 yrs. If people can give AN a try for a couple of cycles with a high quality light source the results will speak for themselves.
As for Sunwho??? I do believe I will go out of my way to make sure I DON’T PURCHASE” any products from companies who operate in this fashion!

im glad i dont live in the U.S, that country(no offence) is screw’d up… advanced nutrients wont go out of business because of canada
. we are way more leanient then they are.. my boss will never get rid of your product no matter what.. 98% of our customers use your product by itself or in conjuction with other stuff. we even have switched 40yr old growers from the competitors to your awsome line of nutes.
keep truckin.. eventualy they will get bored and give up, they always do.

Totaly wrong SS! And such is the bussiness in the US. I used Hydro farms DRY grow food in 1982. It worked GREAT! & priced good too $14/Lb,I also had 2 1000w MH, HPS on a mover from them. Had about 6 crops. Now My wife got cancer I got laid off and had to move to a small town. I just started to grow again. Every thing has to be shiped.I tryed to get the food I used but all Hydro-farms offerd was liquid food and the lights were now over priced. This indoor farm has to support us when unemployment runs out. Not much money to get this started so I searched and found AN & it worked but I want to have 2 rooms, each has a 50 gal resivore. Thats too much money for food for me now,changing the water every week. So then I found DRY Maxi-Grow & Maxi-Bloom. Mike we need DRY AN. Don’t shipp water. Hope to use more of your product soon!

I recently found out about your CEO Craig Hargreaves attempt to “STRONG ARM” a group of hydroponics store owners out of business unless they start a boycott of Advanced Nutrients products. I will also tell you that I have used both “Sunlight Supply” & “Advanced Nutrients” products, however I will now NEVER buy anything from Sunlight Supply ever again! More over I will also tell my friends not use your products and will also post the same thing on grow forums. I find it very sad that your company resorts to illegal strong arm tactics to intimidate hydroponics storeowners as these are the same people who made your company possible.

The good ol boys have asked that we sign what they call ” The MJ policy”, it states that if any of my customers at my hydro shop talk about Marijuana Sunlight supply/ National Garden will take away your products even if paid for and …… I tryed …
